About Souths Print
Written by Greg Wright

South Newcastle Hockey Club is a friendly, professional club focused on the development of players from Juniors right up to Mens and Womens Premier grades. The Mens and Womens clubs recently began working to amalgamate to form a single entity, the South Newcastle Hockey Club. Although this process hasnt ended the result has brought the two clubs closer together than ever before.

Our home field is the Newcastle International Hockey Centre, located next door the the Knights Stadium in Broadmeadow. The Newcastle Hockey Association maintains and operates the two astroturf fields as well as a recently completed practice pitch - a 3/4 size pitch with a number of goals, netting and fencing.

Hockey began in Newacstle in 1932, with Souths forming after the split of Cartlon in 1934.  Souths has always been since its formative years, considered one of the big two clubs in the Newcastle competition, and we have had many skilled representative players amongst our ranks. Throughout the years Souths have been consistently successful. View the history pages on this site to see for yourself!

Recent years have seen the Junior Girls as a strong force in their competitions, as well as Premier, and most other grades in the mens competition.

Our club members include a high ranking internationally qualified umpire, an ex-Australian player and a number of regional, state and development team players.

Turf and beach training is run regularly during the winter months for most of the grades.

If you are looking for a club - give us a shout. Were sure to have a place.
